Financial Controller

Financial Controller

As a Financial Controller at HSO Canada, you are an important part in the success of the company. You will be responsible for keeping track of the companies finance, including executing and overseeing various financial and administrative processes, be involved in business planning, business/project controlling, and financial reporting to management and HSO Group.

Position Summary

An experienced and technically strong Finance Manager/Controller. You possess strong leadership and management experience, are a team player with good communication skills.  You are flexible and hands-on and like to work on a variety of activities in a dynamic and fast-growing company. Working with a strong set of values you will have a positive attitude and focus on results and a drive to constantly improve.

  • College or University Degree in Accounting or Business Administration
  • Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated accounting, controlling, auditing, and reporting experience at a reputable (international) company
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work objectives
  • Experience working in a (international) consulting environment is an asset
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 would be an asset
  • Demonstrated finance competencies in the area of:
  • GL accounting and month-end close procedures
  • Budgeting, forecasting, and management reporting
  • Project administration and project control
  • Invoicing preparation and review
  • Tax computation, filing, and compliance

Responsibilities include:

  • Being an integral part of the management team of the company and providing financial input and insights during management team meetings
  • Running and overseeing the entire financial administration, including running the month-end and year-end closing process
  • Assist the CFO with preparation of reports for the Executive team in Canada and Internationally
  • Oversee the selection and implementation of an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system together with an operational team members and outside consultants
  • Project controlling, monitoring the financial and administrative status of existing and new projects, including project costing and margin analysis
  • Prepare ongoing tax filings (GST, PST, source deductions, etc.) and work with an external accounting firm or consultant on annual filings (corporate tax, SR&ED)
  • Improve operational effectiveness in consultation with operations management and the executives
  • Identify and implement innovative solutions, through the use of technology, to improve productivity, accuracy, and better decision making for finance and operations
  • Be involved with the monthly invoice preparation and review process as well as overseeing the procurement, payroll, and payment processing, including debtor and creditor management
  • Implement (where necessary) and adhere to the financial and administrative policies and procedures of the HSO Group
  • Taking care of reliable and accurate financial and management reporting, including fulfilling group reporting requirements
  • Taking care of coordination with service providers in the area of statutory filing and tax compliance
  • Point of contact in the financial area for colleagues, external relations, and suppliers
  • Tackling ad hoc financial matters and improvement projects
  • Manage an administrative operations colleague, who assists and reports to you

  • Management, motivation and leadership of a project team 
  • Manage multiple project teams concurrently 
  • Clarifies and communicates project objectives and success criteria 
  • Assesses and manages risk, issues and change within, and across, all projects 
  • Develop, monitor and execute project plans (goals, scope, deliverables, timelines, financials and resources) in collaboration with the business and technical teams. 
  • Take ownership of the overall project and ensure that project deliverables, as planned, are completed on-target. 
  • Regularly report progress of project, milestones, achievements and budgetary standing 
  • Ensures a positive, collaborative work environment for the project team

Qualification Requirements: 

  • Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated software implementation project management experience 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • College or University Degree 
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite, including MS Project. 
  • Strong critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills. 
  • Strong relationship building and communication skills. 
  • Demonstrated PM competencies: planning, budget and timeline management, scope management, risk management, timely decision making, effective team building, resource allocation management 
  • Excellent presentation skills - must be comfortable talking to teams from engineering level upwards to VP-level 
  • Ability to manage multiple and concurrent projects and be adaptable to changing priorities. 
  • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work objectives. 
  • CAPM / PMP or other PM certifications would be an asset 
  • Experience working in a consulting environment is an asset 
  • Bilingualism (French and English) is preferred but not required

Compensation: 

  • The position allows for time management flexibility and minimal travel.

As a consultant, you would be able to work from your home-based office, our office and from client sites as projects require. Our client base is primarily in the GTA and as such travel to the client site typically requires a car.

IT Developer

Position Summary

The successful candidate will join our software development/engineering team. You will have the opportunity to work on the following:

  • Work with a team of developers using Microsoft technologies
  • Develop solutions using Microsoft Azure and Power Platform

Responsibilities

  • Support different levels of testing (functional and system)

Required Experience

  • Computer Science degree or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years relevant experience in web development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery)
  • 3+ years of programming experience in .NET (C # and ASP.Net)
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Azure and cloud architecture
