Employee Profile: Consultant Billy McPhee

This month we learn about our newest consultant, Billy McPhee.

As a former elite athlete, Billy has always thrived in a solid team environment. That was the case when he was the quarterback at Queen’s University, and it remains so now.  

When at Queen’s, Billy was a stand-out. In 40 games he completed 577 passes for 8305 yards and 50 touchdowns. When he retired, Billy stood second on Queen’s all-time passing yards ranking. Not bad since the university has been playing football since 1882.  

What lead you to working at CRM Dynamics 

“It was the people. I love working in a strong team environment and I could tell right away that CRMD offered that. I am excited to be a part of it.”   

You career started in sales, what made you make the switch to consultancy 

“My personality is centered around wanting to help others succeed. Of course, within sales there is an element of this, but I really wanted to come at it from a different angle. This role lets me do that and I find it very rewarding to see our clients succeed.”     

Do you think that attitude comes from your time as a quarterback?  

“For sure. I’m used to being the one who is responsible for helping everyone else do their best work. I cannot be successful unless I figure out what makes others successful first. Everything is part of a team.”  

What lead you to football? 

“I’m not a typical Canadian kid. I was never pulled to hockey. Instead, I played football from the time I was 5 and started playing quarterback not long after that.”  

Was it hard to step away from the sport 

“For sure I miss it at times, but there comes a time when you have to move on. It’s a hard sport on you physically, so I can’t play it recreationally. I did coach it for a while, but the time needed to do that was taking away from my ability to be the best husband that I could be and to focus on my career. I do still enjoy watching it, but I find that when I do, I’m only seeing the mistakes on the field now.”   

What makes you most excited to be at CRMD 

“The opportunity to work for such a successful partner that is part of an iconic brand like Microsoft is a tremendously exciting one. I’m honoured to be part of the CRMD team.”
