Data Migration on Your Mind? Check our Pre-Migration Checklist First

Migrating your business software from on-premise to the Cloud is always exciting for a Cloud Service Provider (CSP) like CRM Dynamics. As Microsoft partners, we encourage our customers to take advantage of “On-demand resourcing” where resources within the Cloud are instantly available.
However, as exciting as the transition to the Cloud can be, there are some potential pitfalls to be aware of. Identifying potential hazards can help you prepare in advance to have a successful move to the Cloud.
Here are three common mistakes you’ll want to avoid with your migration:
- You don’t plan ahead:
Failure to plan ahead can be costly. Always take a step back to see what has changed within your organization before you make the big move to Cloud migration. Realize that an easy copy-over and moving unsupported customizations may result in problems down the road. We recommend that businesses take time to plan ahead and re-write scripts as this process will eliminate codes breaking when automatic upgrades are performed.
- You don’t downsize from unnecessary data:
Trying to migrate all your old data will be costly and perhaps unnecessary. During your planning phase, determine what data will be a candidate for migration. It is not always necessary to have ten years’ worth of data migrated. Only 10GB of space is included with Microsoft Dynamics 365. Additional space will cost $5./GB. Perhaps much of your historical data can be left behind, stored in your legacy system.
- You don’t prepare your employees for the change:
Many companies underestimate the role employee adoption plays in having a successful migration and overall new system productivity. Some larger migrations may require consulting with a Change Management professional in order to get the most out of your new environment.
